Kids' clothes upscale, not overpriced: Located next to Starbucks, new resale shop specializes in little duds and more
Rock'n babies is at the intersection of West Ina Road and North Regency Plaza Street in a small strip mall right next to a Starbucks.
The store sells clothing from newborn to children's size 10 in top name brands such as Ralph Lauren, Gap, Gymboree, The Children's Place and Tommy Hilfiger.
"Resale shops in this town just aren't what we think they should be," Switzer said. "We felt we didn't get the value of our clothes when we traded them in."
Switzer, 33, worked for a large commercial contractor in marketing and Holland, 35, worked in property management.
Holland points out that the duo make a pretty good team. "Between the two of us, with her marketing background and my contacts in property management," she said.
On a recent Tuesday, two friends walked into the store. Exclamations of "Look at this!" and "This is so cute!" punctuated the air.
Lisa Lewis, 47, was shopping for her 6-year-old daughter and her 7-year-old son.
"I like the setup here. I like the way it's organized," Lewis said as she perused the dresses for her daughter.
Switzer had thought about opening her own shop for about 15 years, about as long as her passion for resale shopping. But the store -- from concept to opening -- took about four months. "We really pushed it because we wanted to be open by Black Friday," she said.
The business partners pulled together ideas from favorite resale shops in other cities such as San Diego and drew on their experiences as mothers. Holland has two sons, ages 17 months and 12 years. Switzer's daughter is 13 years old and her son is 11 months.
Switzer's husband, Don, and Holland's husband, Mike, designed and built the store's interior.
"Being a mom and going shopping can be really hard," Holland said. "We provide a boutique experience and a friendly children's play area."
