Oct. 21--Designer Furne One of Amato Couture talks to City Times about his recent work with Swarovski, showcasing at Miami Fashion Week and working with Heidi Klum
LATER TONIGHT, AMATO Couture -- brainchild of designer Furne One -- will showcase the most ostentatious collection it has ever produced as part of the 'Crystallized -- Glamour in the City' event.
For this exhibition, Swarovski Middle East has teamed up with ten of its favourite designing partners: Ahmed Al Reyaysa, Sohad Acouri, Ezra, Fatima Abid, Awatif Al Hai, Arushi Design Team, Walid Attalah, Ziad Antoun and Michael Cinco along with Furne One.
The most glamorous picks from the forthcoming season's styles, along with a blend of Swarovski crystals with haute couture, will be put on display during the event.
Furne One (pictured below), who has previously worked with the company, gives us a sneak peak at his collection for the evening.
Tell us a bit about your first collaboration with Crystallized -- Swarovski Elements -- the bridal dress featured in their limited edition book?
The bridal gown I designed for that was something I like to call a "celestial combination of 'bling' and art". It featured a long train with elaborate embroidery, crystal embellishments and hand-painted cherubs. I chose a creamy ivory colour to give it a vintage, family heirloom kind of a feel.
And now you're teaming up with them again for the 'Crystallized -- Glamour in the City' night?
Yes, I've gone for a very opulent, very intricate look. It's basically about the fusion of tradition and urban modernism. But at its core is a sentiment that I believe inspires everyone in whatever endeavour or situation they may be in -- 'Magic is in the air. Anything can happen.'
Was the collection that you showcased at the Miami Fashion Week earlier this year similar since it too was based on high glamour?
My designs for the Miami Fashion Week were sleeker and more sensual. My working theme was indeed high glamour, but there was a touch of Western chic meets Eastern mystery. I used soft, flowing fabrics with a palette of vibrant jewel colours.
You've recently worked with Heidi Klum for Germany 's Next Top Model -- was it a good experience?
All I can say is, Heidi Klum is one of the highest-earning, most-loved supermodels in the world. And she totally deserves it. Her warmth and professionalism have always made working with her something to look forward to.
From the perspective of a local designer, do you think haute couture in the city has evolved?
It's definitely evolving. Today's local couture has gained a level of polished sophistication, which definitely didn't seem to be there before.
How hard or easy is it for a Dubai-based designer to get international recognition like you have?
These days, a lot of Gulf-based designers are making waves on the international scene. So I would have to say that globalisation has made it virtually easy for designers, whether based in Dubai, Chicago, or even Hong-Kong, to get international recognition.
