Hilton Head Prep defeated Bible Baptist 55-44 on Monday night, giving head coach Bob Sulek his 300th win at the school.
Sulek has guided the Dolphins for 12 seasons and has a record of 300-46, averaging 26 wins per season.
"I've had very nice kids," Sulek said. "It's one place left where old-school (coach) meets old-school kids. There are still kids out there that work hard and do their best. We've had 12 years of kids that will be selfless and think of others first. The good of the team is more than the good of the individual. For kids to buy into that in 2010 is very unusual."
Hilton Head Prep has been a SCISAA basketball powerhouse under Sulek's watch, winning six Class 3-A state titles with three runner-up finishes. In his 12 years, Sulek has sent six players on to play Division-I basketball.
The Dolphins (17-3) are currently ranked No. 1 in the state and are favored to win their seventh state title next month.
"The kids are with me in the summer when everybody else is at the beach, they give up their Christmas vacations and so on," Sulek said. "It's a tribute to their parents who allow me the privilege of working with these kids and pushing them as hard as I can."
Kate Brunori had 18 points and 14 rebounds while Jill Brunori had 14 points and 10 steals to lead the Dolphins in Monday's win. Hilton Head Prep outscored Bible Baptist 25-5 in the second period and played several junior varsity players in the second half.
Kim Crapse paced Bible Baptist with 14 points.
Hilton Head Prep will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Porter-Gaud.
