"The concept of the Woodsboro Watch is a community tool," said Ken Kellar, site administrator.
The blog serves as an electronic neighborhood watch where residents may make comments about crimes and concerns, he said. Kellar and block captains place postings on the site.
Few people have time to attend a neighborhood watch meeting, but most have a few minutes to post comments on the site.
"If people wonder 'How can I serve the town?' this is a really low-key way to do it," Kellar said.
Deputy First Class Kevin White of the Frederick County Sheriff's Office will attend the meeting to discuss how a neighborhood watch group works, how the agency supports the neighborhoods involved and to answer any questions.
White said what residents need to remember is when something suspicious or illegal happens, they need to report it to the police -- not the neighborhood watch, he said.
Everyone needs to "report every crime, no matter how small," White said.
While Woodsboro is generally a safe place, the blog helps residents to compare crimes and get feedback from law enforcement, Kellar said.
Local businessman Ryan Trout decided to be more proactive with police after his vehicle's car windows were shot out in the summer and Trout's Towne Restaurant was broken into in December. Burglars stole steaks and food items.
Trout hopes the meeting will encourage others to participate and see if residents want to have quarterly meetings to discuss crime.
By participating in the watch, residents are telling criminals that crime will not be allowed in the town, Trout said.
"We like the community the way it is," he said.
